Can AI to help me run faster?

One of the areas of AI that I deeply interested is leveraging AI to improve with athletics. I’ve been avid runner ever since I was in high school, and ever since I started, I’ve been always looking for ways to improve my running performance. I’ve continuously read about various training methods, watched countless videos of professional athletes training, and had discussions with fellow runners about training methods they’ve tried and what worked for them. I’ve appreciated people sharing their workouts and training methods such as Flotrack’s Workout Wednesday and Track All Access, so I thought that documenting my own journey of training for my upcoming Monterey Half Marathon may be potentially useful to others.

Now is an interesting time in the world of athletics, as there is much potential for AI to help everyday athletes improve their performance. One of the constraints that used to limit me from training more effectively was access to personalized coaching. Without personalized coaching, I often found myself ‘guessing’ what I should do for workouts, which often led me to me running too hard on easy days or not pushing myself enough on hard days. With the advent of AI, I can now have access to personalized coaching that can help me train more effectively and efficiently. Since 2016, I’ve been using Strava to document my workouts, essentially making Strava large database of my fitness history. Early in June 2026, Strava released an MCP which allows me to interact with my Strava data through AI. I recently tried out the Strava MCP through Claude, and I was impressed with how well it was able to find patterns in my training history. It not only was able to find trends in my fitness through my running times, but also understood I felt during my runs through the notes I took on Strava. [provide example]
